Sponsored Swim

Every year, the club holds a sponsored swim. This not only gives us a chance to raise money for the club and a local charity, but just as importantly it allows the swimmers to achieve something they can be proud of. They are always amazed at how far they can swim, as are the people who sponsor them.

All swimmers will receive a certificate and badge for the distance they have managed to cover. The coaches will be on hand to ensure everyone has a fun time and achieves their potential.

The money we raise will go towards a charity of the club’s choice.  This year’s charity, chosen by our members, is the Wave Project.

As well as donating through the club, using cash or cheques, you may also donate through our Justgiving page.

Some rules:

  1. Prior to starting distance swim – make sure you have been to the toilet, if you get out of the pool, you cannot get back in!
  2. Swimmers are not allowed to place their feet on the bottom of the pool during swim.
  3. Swimmers are not allowed to stop at either end of the pool for a rest.
  4. You can change stroke at any time.
  5. If you intend to swim a lot of lengths, (more than 50 lengths) you should be at the pool to start your sponsored swim during 1st or 2nd This will allow sufficient time for you to complete your sponsored swim in good time.
  6. You may swim on both days, however, only one of the swims will count.
  7. Parent volunteers will be needed to help count lengths and encourage the swimmers.
  8. All money and sponsor forms should be handed into the desk, or donated through the Justgiving page.
  9. Have fun!

Did you know........It’s #internationalvolunteersday, so I thought I would share some Dunbar Dolphin facts with you.

Everyone involved in running the club is a volunteer.

It takes 5 coaches, 3 lifeguards, 4 poolside helpers, 3 parent helpers, 6 junior coaches and DOE volunteers to run each session.

Behind the scenes making sure it all runs smoothly is a committee of 10 people.

We collectively give 2,500 volunteers hours per year, not including back office stuff like writing session plans, planning and running events, dealing with emails, finances, risk assessments and shopping.

Wow.... I think this is fantastic and would like to say Thank You to every volunteer who makes our wee club a great place for the young people of Dunbar to have fun, improve their swim skills and make friends.

We have a few roles to fill and if you would like to join our amazing group of volunteers please get in touch.

We certainly do love our volunteers aka the Dream Team 😉

Well done to all our swimmers who threw themselves into last nights diving session.
Watching them progress from diving off the edge of the pool and onto the blocks was amazing.
Everybody gave it their best and by end of the session were all diving off the blocks.

A big shout out to our coaches Allan, Lisa and Treen who all gave up their Friday evening to go down and run the session.

Thank you to Demi from Haddington Swimming Club for making this possible and spending your Friday night with us.
